12 40 00 FURNISHINGS & ACCESSORIES

12 46 33 INTERIOR WASTE/RECYCLING & COMPOSTING STATIONS

.01 WASTE/RECYCLING STATIONS
  1. Stations shall be provided in all new construction and major renovation projects at University Park and Commonwealth Campuses.
  2. University recycling bin selection preference
    1. Type 1 Receptacle: Built-in
      Strategically located built-in units incorporating serviceable containers with liners shall be provided in all new construction and major renovation projects.
    2. Type 2 Receptacle: Credenza
      High profile locations such as historic buildings, administrative office suites and hospitality environments that cannot accommodate Type 1 Built-in station(s) should be equipped with custom made “credenza” stations with color and detailing to compliment the building’s interior.
    3. Type 3 Receptacle: Cube
      General purpose locations such as classroom building corridors and lobbies shall be equipped with “credenzas” or retrofit cube stations.
    4. Type 4 Receptacle: Plastic
      Plain plastic receptacles (blue “slim jim’s) are acceptable only in service areas such as copy rooms, kitchenettes, break rooms, or other “private” spaces.

.02 COMPOSTING STATIONS
  1. Stations shall be provided in all new construction and major renovation projects at University Park and Commonwealth Campuses.
  2. University composting station preferences
    1. Because of the unique nature of the organic composting program it is recommended that compost stations have a distinctive color scheme to better distinguish them from other waste or recycling containers.
    2. The compost stations will be fitted with solid lids and handles to mitigate potential odor and insect problems.
