.01 Finish Hardware Requirements

    1. Office Doors:
      1. Locks shall be one of the following:
        1. Sargent #8205 WTJ.
        2. Best 45H7A3J
        3. Schlage L9050 03L
        Latch bolt operated by lever either side except when outside lever is locked by button or toggle in faceplate; latch is retracted by key outside. Auxiliary bolt deadlatch.
      2. No door closers unless required by current applicable codes. 
        Office suites main entrance door may use cast iron or aluminum body closer if requested by occupants.
    2. Classroom Doors:
      1. Locks shall be one of the following:

        Classroom function, key outside locks or unlocks outer lever; Interior lever always free.

        Latch bolt by lever either side. Dead bolt by key outside and turnpiece inside. Projecting deadbolt locks outside lever. Turning inside lever retracts both latchbolt and deadbolt simultaneously, unlocking outside lever.

    1. Public Toilet Doors:

    2. Communicating Doors:

        Latch bolt by either side. Deadbolt by key either side. Levers and deadbolt work independently. Code requires alternate exit in rooms with this lock function to avoid lock-in.

    1. Stair Tower Doors:
      1. Exit devices and trim for single doors shall be one of the following:

      2. Exit devices and trim for paired doors shall be one of the following:

          No bottom latch or rod; Provide standard fire bolt to be installed 12" up from bottom of doors between pairs.

    3. Hold open arms are not allowed on fire rated door. If hold-open function is desired, wall mounted magnetic holder tired into the fire alarms system shall be used:

  1. A. Exterior Aluminum Doors (narrow lock stile):
    1. Exit devices for single doors shall be one of the following:

    2. At paired doors, use exit devices as listed above in conjunction with removable mullion:

    3. Prefer to not use surface vertical rod devices at exterior pairs, unless absolutely required for usage (if used, vertical rod extended latch guard is required). Do not use concealed vertical rod exit devices in any application.
    4. Operation: Egress by inside push bar, always free. Entry by key or card reader, which would retract latch and allows door to be pulled open. Do not provide cylinder dogging (unless facility security programming allows) to allow for push-pull operation.
    5. Door closers shall be one of the following:

      2. Stanley QDC100
      3. Sargent 281
      Bodies shall be cast iron, cast aluminum bodies are not acceptable. Provide drop plates and fin stop spacers as required for correct installation on narrow top rail.
    1. B. Exterior Hollow Metal Doors (wide lock stile)
      1. Exit devices for single door shall be one of the following:
        1. Von Duprin 99NL x 392-6
        2. Precision 2103 x Trimco 1191-4 N
        3. Sargent 8805 x 862
        4. Finish shall be US32D.
      2. At paired door, use exit devices as listed above in conjunction with removable mullion:

        Bodies shall be cast iron, cast aluminum bodies are not acceptable.
      NOTE: select exterior opening applications may warrant an in-ground closer. In-ground Rixson closers maybe used where doors are located under covered entrances away from the elements, subject to review from OPP. Vestibule and interior applications may use in-ground Rixson closers. Model shall be heavy duty, and specific to door characteristics and/or other facility requirements.
  1. Low Energy Power Openers (section 08 71 13 included for quick reference)
    1. Norton 6000 series

    3. Dorma 250 Series
    4. Finish shall compliment the opening's frame and/or closers in the surrounding area.
    5. Actuator shall be by the above manufacturers or Larco.
      1. wireless actuators shall only be used on interior applications
      Closer bodies shall be cast iron, cast aluminum bodies are not acceptable.
    6. Bollards shall be minimum 42-inches high by 5-inches square and able to accept the push plate actuator, card reader and proximity reader. Color to be approved by Office of Physical Plant (OPP) before project bid phase.
    7. Note: Advances in technology are permitted where power opener product will provide substantially equivalent or greater access/ease of use. Submit product to OPP for consideration.
  2. Residence Hall Bedroom Doors:
    1. Locksets shall be one of the following:
      1. Sargent 8225 WTJ
      2. Best 45H7T3J
      3. Schlage L9453 03L
      Latch bolt by either side. Deadbolt by key or card reader outside and turn piece inside. Projecting deadbolt locks outside lever. Turning inside lever retracts both latch bolt and deadbolt simultaneously, unlocking outside lever.
    2. Door closers shall be one of the following:
      1. Cast iron body (preferred):
        1. LCN 4010/4111
        2. Dormakaba QDC100
        3. Sargent 281
      2. Cast aluminum (extra heavy duty) may be used:
        1. Best HD8000
        2. Sargent 351
        3. Norton 7500
    3. Kickplates and mop plates shall be 18 ga stainless steel with beveled edges.
  3. Uncontrolled Exit Doors:
    1. All doors shall be equipped with proper exterior door hardware as listed above with an emergency exit alarm:
      1. Detex EAX-500
      2. Alarm Lock PG21
    2. Emergency exit alarms will be armed with a small-format cylinder installed in alarm case. Where required for usage, also provide exterior rim cylinder to allow for arming/disarming alarm from outside.
    3. Exit alarms are battery operated (where applicable with prior approval).
  4. Lock Cylinders:

     A. For new building construction: All lock cylinders shall be 7-pin small-format interchangeable core (SFIC), ANSI/BHMA A156.5, Grade 1 Certified Products Directory (CPD) listed cylinders employing a utility patented and restricted keyway requiring the use of a patented key.

    1. Keying / supply options:


              a. Specification which list keying by the university Lock Shop, provide the following uncombinated, or 0 bitted, small format cores:

                     i.   Provide Medeco (MC) X4

                    ii. No substitutions.

              b. Specifications which require factory keying (restricted to Housing and Food Services only)

                     i. Provide Medeco (MC) X4

                    ii. No substitutions

    B. For fully renovated buildings or full building re-cores: All lock cylinders shall be 7-pin small-format interchangeable core (SFIC), ANSI/BHMA A156.5, Grade 1 Certified Products Directory (CPD).

    Keying / supply options:

              c. Specification which list keying by the university Lock Shop, provide the following uncombinated, or 0 bitted, small format cores:

                    i. Provide Medeco (MC) X4

                   ii. Alternate core/key manufacturer exception requests will be directed to the Director of Physical Security, University Police & Public Safety for approval or denial. Requests will  provide justification for the use of an alternate manufacturer.

               d.  Specifications which require factory keying (restricted to Housing and Food Services only)

                    i. Provide Medeco (MC) X4

                   ii. No substitutions

    C. For a partial renovated building: For partially renovated spaces, the Lock Shop, in partnership with the Planner/Estimator, will determine the manufacturer and keyway to match the current system, within the building.

         2. All keys shall be embossed with the letters “PSU” and “DO NOT DUPLICATE”.

                 a. For factory keying, keys will also have a key identifier with key symbol directed by the University.

         3. Contractors will remove their construction cores for installation of permanent cores. This will be managed and coordinated by the Project Manager or Construction Services Rep, for Physical Plant.

         4. All key operated elevator switches will be provided with SFIC, to match the current key systems. The OPP Lock Shop will determine the manufacturer, based on the need for the switch.

         5. All small format cylinders and cores will be furnished under the Finish Hardware Section.

  5. Electric strikes

  6. Hinges:
    1. All doors shall be equipped with proper size, type and number of hinges. Provide non-removable pins at exterior doors and interior secure doors swinging out.
    2. Interior doors up to 36" wide shall be provided with one of the following:

    3. Interior doors over 36" wide shall be provided with one of the following:

  7. Door Stops, Holder and Bumpers:
    1. Doors that open to a perpendicular wall shall be provided with wall mounted stop:

      This is the preferred door stop application.
    2. Where required, floor mounted stop to be:

  8. Finishes:
    1. Standard finishes as follows:
      1. Interior hinges, locks, floor stops: US26D/652 Satin Chrome.
      2. Exterior hinges, push-pulls, kickplates, exit devices: US32D/630 stainless steel.
      3. Doors closers and accessories: 689 / AL powder coat aluminum finish.
      4. Other finishes may be warranted to match existing and need prior approval.
  9. Miscellaneous Requirements:
    1. SUBSTITUTIONS: This standard allows for three (3) solutions from unique corporations for all major items (hinges, locksets, exit devices, door closers and cylinders). In order to maintain quality on the campus, the University will not accept any alternates or substitutions to these items as specified above, unless prior written approval from Office of Physical Plant (OPP) is granted.
    2. Doors with push-pulls in conjunction with a cylinder deadlock will be drilled for cylinders.
    3. Provide rubber silencers at all hollow metal frames that do NOT receive sound seal or smoke gasket: Rockwood 608 or Ives 20.
    4. If required, any padlock supplied to be small-format 7-pin key system to match existing.
    5. Furnish padlocks for all transformer gates.
    6. Provide kickplates at any door scheduled with a door closer.
    7. Wood doors that are schedule with door closers to have sufficient blocking built in to meet a 1,000,000 slam cycle test. Thru-bolting of door closers is not acceptable.
    8. Flush bolts should be installed in edge of door.
    9. All push plates should be 8" x 16" unless not possible because of size constraints.
    10. All hardware to be installed according to manufacturer's recommendations unless specified for an atypical installation.
